Notes on cancellations and repairs

Genuine chips are usually cancelled in one of three ways; A drill hole, notching/clipping or overstamping.

Drill holes can vary from a 4mm (approx) hole occurring anywhere on the chip, to an 8mm (approx) hole right through the center.  Notched chips are normally the samples provided to the casinos by the manufacturers.  Casino's do not carry out their own 'cancellation' of chips.

Examples of drilled chips that have had the drill hole filled, and inlays replaced or changed exist.  These repairs are normally only detectable by xray.  Chips are also known with cancellation removed.  Where not detectable by human eye, these can be verified by UV lamp.
